Mingda School pays attention to rural education in northwest of China, in particular English education. The School provides a relaxing and healthy education environment for the left-behind children living in rural areas.
In 2010, we started cooperating with the Rainbow Village Public Welfare Development Center. We have been working together ever since. Now we are on the way to Rainbow village, bringing lovely gifts for people in Chengdu. Poverty is not inherent in their nature, nor is it part of the culture passed from generation to generation. The land was stamped as “most unsuitable for living” by UNESCO, but the people living here still plow their land, struggling against the poverty. We have to guard our homeland and improve the ecological environment where we are living. Our idea is to put environmental protection in the minds and education of teenagers, so that they can help us to develop as well as our descendents. After half a year of preparation, the children at Mingda School received about 400 volumes of books donated by various enterprises. Mingda School has finally completed the establishment of a library in the village. Holding books, the children were deeply immersed in the stories, reading voraciously and exploring unknown worlds. This school owes many thanks to TFish's support and to teachers for their instructions. We also thank the communist youth league from Jixi county and relevant enterprises. All of these people brought knowledge and hope to the children living in this remote mountainous area. April 12th was a sunny day. I went to Yaobazhuang Primary School as a math teacher. There are 6 teachers in the school and one of them is a substitute teacher, but there were only 3 of them on duty that day. I did not know one of them. I was told later that he was a temp teacher and responsible for Chinese and math of Grade 4. He had not even graduated from Grade 8 himself. I was thinking if he was qualified to be a teacher. It was difficult for the child to understand the math problem. I have explained for several times, but he could not work out. I turned the text book to the contents learned before, and explain them to him again. Over and over, he finally understood the points of the day. After the class, I left the school with a heavy heart. Anyway, I would stick to my original dream—to motive the children’s desire for knowledge with my enthusiasm, so that they would have less confusion and more confidence in the process of development. Though I am in Chengdu, my heart remains in Yaobazhuang—our first public English education site. I got a phone call from the volunteers last night. There are many children who are from primary schools and senior high schools waiting for the enrollment. Already, there are over 80 registered students. I became excited thinking about just how many students would be able to receive education this winter. I thank Mr. Liu from Beijing who donated desks and chairs to the school. Many thanks to TFish Fund, which provided 3000 RMB towards the library construction in the village. The children did not have desks, chairs, or books, but now they have access to all of these crucial items for learning. I also thank all the volunteers who offered English learning materials. These children are unfortunate on the one hand, but they are lucky on the other. Their families are as poor as most other families in this area, but they are lucky because so many loving people care about them. Many people not only provides help to them, but they work to clean obstacles in their way so that they would be able to grow up well. I hope that they will take this as motivation to connect more with the outside world, learn more, expand their vision, and fly out their dreams.
